Happy New Year!

Well first of all…. HAPPY NEW YEAR! What did you all do to celebrate last night? My family and I went to our friends rooftop apartment at neutral bay that has a stunning view of the bridge. We go there every year to watch the Sydney NYE fireworks and see the Bridge light up. Unfortunately since my “kidney downfall”, we can only stay for the 9pm fireworks and not the full midnight display because I need to get home to be hooked up dialysis. That’s ok though, we just watch the midnight ones on TV when we get home. Below are a few shots I took from the balcony.
This year has been a roller coaster of good and bad. The first 6 months of the year were spent trying to find the cause of a constant mystery cough which turned out to be much more serious than any old cough! It turned out to be Cardiomyopathy which is another way of saying “Heart Failure” i later found out! As soon as they gave me heart medication…POOF! The cough went away! How a weak heart causes a cough? Beats me!?
2 amazing things happened in the first half of the year also. My life long dream of seeing The Cranberries in concert and meeting them came true! Twice! I also got to meet evolutionary biologist Prof Richard Dawkins when he was on QandA for a special Easter debate against Cardinal George Pell. It was so cool to meet him and he signed my copy of The God Delusion! At around the same time, there was deep sadness as my friend Rebecca Brewer who had EB like me, passed away suddenly. It was a huge shock and we all miss her dearly. Then came a few more hospital admissions, one including emergency surgery to remove an infected PD Catheter and huge abscess! Insertion of a VasCath and transition to Haemodialysis. And just when all that starts working smoothly, the tissue around my VasCath starts breaking down and it must be removed. Another admission it is! VasCath removed and another surgery to have a new PD Catheter inserted! Blah! I’m tired just thinking about it all!
I’m hoping 2013 is better year, at least health wise! Hope everyone has a happy and safe New Years!

Hey Nikki! I just read your blog, it is so funny and
clever, you definitely have a gift for writing. I love your
attitude for life, you rock! I just moved to Neutral Bay, it is
such a nice place. If I can ever do anything to help, including a
good chat or laugh, send me an email. Jade xx
First off – love your web design! It’s really catchy. Second – oh bugger for you. Life can be such a swine sometimes, and I guess for you, all the time. I’m an amputee and even after a year, still going through the grieving process. I simply adore your attitude. You have plenty to teach others with a disability. You are gracious and forgiving, something that is needed in spades when you’ve a physically obvious disability. You rock young lady, power to you!!!
I hope 2013 is a great year for you!
Happy new year Nikki! Hope 2013 is a better one for you
You certainly are a trooper, powering through the difficult times. I do admire you.
That picture of the sunset is lovely.
